SUPERIOR!!! Done right...
I ordered the Family Shade Tent and received it in quick order. Upon greeting the UPS man, I was not surprised how heavy the cartons were, because of the shipping expense, but on the other hand... wow, they were heavy. I have not yet taken this on a camping trip, but I have put it up in the yard to get a feel for the setup. Being a previous owner of a Springbar tent 20 years ago, I expected a quality tent... but WOW this thing is awesome. I put it up by myself in about 15 minutes. Heavy zippers. Metal loops sewn in around the perimeter of the tent where the stakes go... these should last a lifetime! The metal stakes that were included are top-notch. The heavy metal poles are great... these will never break. The top T-bars on the spring bar holders... heavy metal... I doubt that these CAN break. I have yet to fold it up, but the generous bag that was provided should be fine for holding the tent. I say these things because Kirkham's must have listened to previous reviews that talked about wimpy poles, small bags and plastic stakes... not what I got! Since this is a screen tent I am glad there is no floor. When dropping the tent for repacking I WILL put inside a cheap tarp on the ground to keep the roof from getting dirty on the ground. I appreciate the fact that this tent should last my lifetime and will then give it to my kid. After I use it for a year, I will repost and let you know how it went after 2 months camping in FL in the winter months.

Bag is too small
Forgot to mention in my review. We found it almost impossible to get the tent back into the bag it was shipped in and didn't want to have to struggle with it when breaking camp. We ordered a 26 x 32 bag to replace the other one and that makes it sooooo much simpler to break camp and be on our way.

Great product otherwise

CampingDad
We have used our Family Shade on a few camping trips now and find it to be an excellent addition to our gear. At first we were disappointed that the screen house didn't have a floor but after a few uses, I find the lack of a floor to be a good thing. We typically setup this shelter and then move the picnic table (car camping at established sites) into the Family Shade. We are typically using our Coleman stove and storing food and water in the screen house and a floor would quickly get dripped on, torn up (them tables a HEAVY!) and dirty/muddy very quickly. The sod skirt is about 1 foot of material that is at the bottom of the Shade and comes inside and does a good job at keeping the bugs at bay. I was somewhat disappointed to find the tent came with the cheap plastic yellow stakes instead of the steel stakes that came with our Family Camper 7 and the upright poles that support the roof are of a lesser quality that the Family Camper (granted they are supporting less weight and we have not had ANY problems with them so far). Setup is similar to the Springbar tents but I would recommend using a ground tarp so the ceiling of the Shade doesn't get dirty (etc) and then have stuff falling in your food later. You can always remove the ground tarp before you move your stuff into the Shade. The Shade provides a good retreat from the sun, wind, rain and most of all BUGS!!! 5 stars for a great product, less 1 star for the yellow plastic stakes that we felt needed to be replaced to make this just as ready for mother nature as the Family Camper 7 and the cheaper upright poles. Keep up the good work Kirkhams!!!
