The history of Kirkham's Outdoor Products originates in November 1944, when Arthur Jack Kirkham purchased the AAA Tent and Awning company in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah.

In the immediate post-war era, raw materials were hard to come by. A persistent Jack Kirkham searched the country to find the best available textiles for the many custom awnings, tarps, horse blankets, and tents that the company manufactured. As the business grew, Kirkham's began selling accessory items to a clientele of outfitters and camping enthusiasts. Sleeping bags, camp stoves, lanterns and backpacks became regular stock items.

With the philosophy "Always produce the highest quality products and provide the best possible service for our customers," Jack listened to what his customers were saying about the need for a better tent. He took their suggestions to heart, and developed the idea for the Springbar® tent frame in the early 1960s — a durable, reliable tent that was easy to set up in the field. This revolutionary design is the basis for today's Springbar® tent models which have evolved and been well tested over the last forty years. The simplicity and ruggedness of this design has made Springbar® one of the most respected names in the tent manufacturing industry.

Jack eventually retired, passing the business to his son, Jack Kirkham, Jr. Today, Kirkham's has grown to be one of the premier outdoor stores in the West, housed in a large, newly remodeled location in Salt Lake City. Though we've grown in size, we continue to emphasize the "personal touch" that you would expect from a local business with over 60 years of service to the community. We strive to offer a superb selection of outdoor equipment and clothing, and back it up with friendly, knowlegeable service and fair everyday pricing. Let us help you "get to better places" this year and enjoy all that the great outdoors has to offer.
